Job Description

The Controller will oversee all financial functions of the firm, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. This role requires a deep understanding of law firm financial management, trust accounting, and regulatory compliance.

Location: San Francsico (HYBRID)

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.

  • Ensure compliance with trust accounting regulations and legal industry financial standards.

  • Develop financial policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.

  • Work closely with partners to provide financial insights and strategic recommendations.

  • Manage external audits and tax reporting processes.

  • Implement and optimize financial systems and software.

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.

  • Strong knowledge of trust accounting and compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Aderant, Elite, or similar legal accounting systems).

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys, staff, and external financial partners.
